Natural day-lighting was provided by roof top clerestory windows, south facing windows and north facing windows. The electric lights were automatically dimmed or turned it of in response to the amount of daylight inside the library. The energy efficiency of this simple design was very impressive and the construction cost very low. The public and the Librarians loved the natural light.
