North Suffolk Library

Suffolk Public Library
Suffolk, Virginia

One enters this new 22,500 S.F. library through adramatic two-story lobby. Natural light pours in through high clerestory windows. This public space features a variety of seating for all to enjoy. Ample floor area allows visitors to have a space for reading, enjoying vending machine food and drinks in a relaxing, comfortable environment. They can log onto the internet on their laptops using the available wireless network.

For added convenience, satellite offices for the City Treasurer and the Commissioner of the Revenue are entered off the shared lobby. Separate staff facilities allow all three departments to work freely without disrupting each other.

Because many young families are moving into the rapidly growing nearby neighborhoods, the library features a large Children’s Collection with a program and play area designed to inspire and promote creativity for our future generation. The extensive Adult Collection includes computers, study carrells, and casual seating arrangements overlooking a reading garden. The $3.5 million building opened in March of 2007.
