History

The Design Collaborative in Norfolk, Virginia was established in 1976, to provide complete architectural and design services to local and regional clients.  Over the years we have designed a wide range of building types. Principals Richard J. Fitts, AIA, LEED AP and Edward G. Lazaron, AIA, LEED, AP are actively involved in every project from start to finish.  Working closely with our architects and technicians as well as specialized engineers and consultants, we provide a full spectrum of services as required for each project.

Experience and Services

For over 30 years, our architects have been recognized for their leadership in energy efficient building design.  From passive solar houses in the 1980’s to green buildings today, we have demonstrated commitment to sustainable design that is attractive, economical to construct, and saves both operating and maintenance costs over the life of the building.

Our commercial projects cover a wide variety of retail centers, offices, mixed use buildings and automotive dealerships.  They include shell buildings, tenant build outs and turn key complete projects.

Our local government and municipal projects include public libraries, police precincts and recreation centers.

From subsized housing to custom dwellings, we have designed homes, duplexes, townhouses, apartments, and condominiums for all segments of the marketplace.  These projects are located throughout Hampton Roads, North Carolina, and Maryland.  With nearly 40 years of residential design experience, former TDC Principal, Edward R. Roehm, AIA, LEED AP, continues to be a frequent collaborator on design of these projects.
